College Counselor

Start Date: As soon as possible

Hours: Full time

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education or Guidance Counseling preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Guidance Counseling required
  • Minimum of two (2) years working experience in a high school academic setting
  • Superior public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to provide group facilitation
  • Knowledge of local community resources, Department of Education systems, and graduation requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of all steps to college application process
  • Interest in providing quality educational and enrichment experiences to youth
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds 
  • Ability to work with students of variety of academic backgrounds
  • Strong organizational, multitasking and follow through skills
  • Self-motivated ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and positive team-oriented attitude
  • Computer knowledge including experience with Microsoft software packages, local area networks and the internet
  • Must be able to work weekends 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide services across community center and school-based program sites
  • Coordinate the SAT preparation course;  write curriculum , implement college-bound activities workshops and organize college visits
  • Provide group and individual college admission counseling
  • Distribute materials and information to college applicants including application forms, catalogues, financial aid forms and scholarship information, etc
  • Maintain record of all participants and activities including data entry and database management
  • Facilitate applications to Youth Services Scholarship Program
  • Facilitate Volunteer Tutoring Program
  • Establish relationships with other college-bound programs (CBO) and local high schools
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
