Affordable Health Insurance

Henry Street Settlement's Health Care Access (HCA) program assesses eligibility for enrollment into New York State's affordable health insurance plans: Child Health Plus, Medicaid, or a private Qualified Health Plans (QHPs). If eligibility is determined, individual and family enrollment is completed on site at the HCA office (281 East Broadway).

Affordable Care Act

During the open enrollment period from November 15, 2014, to February 15, 2015, New York residents can shop for, compare and enroll in health insurance coverage to begin in 2015, under the ACA through NY State of Health, The Official Health Plan Marketplace.

Our Navigator and also Certified Application Counselors (C.A.C.’s) at Henry Street are trained to assist state residents with applying for and enrolling in public health insurance (Medicaid and Child Health Plus) and with comparing and shopping for affordable private health insurance options (Qualified Health Plans (QHPs). Individuals must sign up during Open Enrollment starting November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015for health insurance coverage beginning as early as January 1, 2015.

Child Health Plus

The program's goal is to ensure that children with no health insurance have access to primary health care regardless of their immigration status at no cost, or at low cost.

To be eligible for Child Health Plus, the child must:

  • Be a resident of New York State
  • Be under the age of 19
  • Not be eligible for Medicaid
  • Not have equivalent health care coverage 

Medicaid

This program is for low-income family members who are New York State residents.

To be eligible for Medicaid, the applicant must:

  • Be a resident of New York State
  • Be a United States citizen or "qualified immigrant"
  • Meet the income eligibility levels
  • Be under the age of 65
