Toddler Art Exploration Students work closely with parents and caregivers as they are introduced to a range of art materials and explore the concepts of color, shape, line and other elements of art. Ages 1.5-3 | Wednesdays, 10:30-11:15 am | $255
Art Exploration I Through multi-sensory experiences, students will make their own artistic discoveries. They will explore painting, collage, drawing, and a variety of other materials and techniques, building a foundation for future art exploration. Ages 3-4 | Saturdays, 10:30-11:30 am | $255
CHILDREN AND TEENS
Clay Creations Create expressive sculpture and functional ware such as cups, bowls and plates through the hand building techniques of pinch, coil and slab. Children will also learn about glazing and work together on collaborative projects. Ages 7-14 | Tuesdays, 4-5:30 pm | $230
Drawing and Painting Students will delve into the many possibilities of drawing and painting, using their own creativity and imagination while being introduced to many different materials and techniques, including pastels, markers, colored pencils, tempera paint, and watercolor. Sculpture and 3-Dimensional Design Students will engage in creative problem solving as they learn the basic elements of sculpture and three-dimensional design using paper, clay, wood, wire and other construction and building materials. Ages 6-9 | Wednesdays, 4-5:30 pm | $240
Digital Photography Learn how to use a digital camera to create interesting images from everyday life! Students will be introduced to the technical aspects of a digital camera and how to use the medium of photography for creative expression. All students are asked to provide their own digital camera and memory card. Ages 7-12 | Thursdays, 4-5:30 pm | $230
Art Exploration II Building on prior art-making experiences, students will continue to explore a variety of creative media and further develop their technique, skill, and personal style. Ages 5-7 | Saturdays, 1-2:30 pm | $255
Making Mini-Comics Students will learn the basics of writing and drawing comic stories, step-by-step, from concept to illustration to printing. The class will culminate with the publishing of a printed minicomic by each student! Ages 8-14 | Saturdays, 10-11:30 am | $255
Introduction to Drawing Students will explore drawing as a creative tool through the use of various media including scratch board, printmaking, collage and ink. This course will focus on learning to draw from both observation and imagination. Ages 7-9 | Saturdays, 3-4:30 pm | $230
Junior Visual Arts Academy Students will learn a range of techniques and skills that will equip them to pursue future advanced studies in art making. Students will work in a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and collage. Ages 8-11 | Saturdays, 12:30-2:30 pm | $285
Saturday Visual Arts Academy An intensive program for students grades 6-12 who are committed to developing their art skills and creating portfolios for applying to specialized art high schools or colleges. In addition to a variety of media, students are also introduced to the world of fine arts and art careers through exposure to art history, museums, galleries, art studios and lessons with professional artists. It is recommended that students enroll for both fall and spring semesters. Ages 12-17 | Saturdays, 10 am-2:30 pm | $410
Developing an Art Portfolio This class meets twice-a-week for 15 weeks in the fall, and is specifically designed for students applying to high school or college programs in visual arts, students will work intensively throughout the fall semester developing and strengthening work to meet the rigorous criteria for art portfolios. Ages 12-17 | Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 pm-6:30 pm | $410 (2 classes per week, Fall Semester Only)
Guerilla Video Workshop: Movie Making How can you make your own videos? Guerilla Video Workshop will introduce students to the elements of video production using both traditional methods and cutting-edge techniques in movie-making. Ages 14-18 (open to adults as well) | Thursdays, 5-7 pm | $235
Theatrical Design Learn the basics of Theatrical Design from professional artists in the field with workshops about Costumes, Sets, Lighting and Sound. Put your own ideas and skills to the test while designing stage elements for a production at Abrons Arts Center! Ages 14-18 (open to adults as well) | Tuesdays, 5-7 pm | $235
ADULTS
Ceramics Create sculpture and functional pieces through hand building and glazing techniques with master clay artist Noël Copeland. Individualized instruction, all levels welcome. Fee includes clay and materials. Wednesdays, 6:30-9 pm | $435
Adult Painting & Drawing Draw and paint with pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic to increase expertise and expression and explore new materials and techniques. Students identify their materials and interests and develop their own personal styles. All levels welcome. Tuesdays, 7-9 pm | $325
Printmaking and Collage Using water based inks, students will experience a range of low-tech printmaking and collage techniques, starting with the basics of printing and collage and moving on to more complex projects including individual pieces and printed editions. Students will learn the basics of relief, transfer, etching and stencil printing as well as stamping and painting techniques. Wednesdays, 7-9 pm or Thursdays, 10 am 12 pm | $325
** Attention Adults! - Open Studio Lab Hours: Looking for a ceramics studio, a printing press, or other studio space to use from time-to time? Abrons Arts Center offers free open studio hours for any adult enrolled in a class. For artists not enrolled in a class, who have expertise in an art form and are looking for workspace, you are invited to register for open studio hours for a fee of $100/semester. A mandatory 1-hour orientation workshop is required for anyone registering for open studio hours.
