Employee Matching Gifts Many companies will match or exceed an employee’s gift to a non-profit organization.
Gifts In Honor Of or In Memory Of Many donors choose to make a gift to honor a friend on a special occasion or to memorialize a loved one.
Stock When long-term appreciated securities are donated, no capital gains tax is paid on the transfer, and the donor is entitled to a charitable tax deduction based on the full current market value of the stock. A tax advisor can provide further information.
Auctions Haute couture fashions and other collectible items can be donated through major New York City auction houses or resale boutiques. Tax-deductible proceeds from the sale go to Henry Street.
Legacy Gifts Bequests continue to be a major source of funding and play an integral role in enabling the Settlement to provide comprehensive services to families on the Lower East Side. Henry Street understands that bequest intentions are a very personal matter, and attorneys can help plan a lasting gift that will provide tax-benefits to the estate. If the decision to remember Henry Street Settlement in a will is made, the following format is suggested:
I bequeath to Henry Street Settlement, a not-for-profit corporation of the State of New York, having its principal office at 265 Henry Street, New York, N.Y., the sum of $____.
This bequest is to be used for the Settlement’s general corporate purposes.
Naming Opportunities There are many opportunities at Henry Street to establish a personal memorial or tribute to an individual, an organization or a loved one- for example, one opportunity includes a handsome brass plaque placed on the back of a beautifully refurbished upholstered seat in the historic Harry De Jur Theater. There are also many additional opportunities tied to arts education and camp scholarships and the renovations and repairs of Henry Street’s historic landmarks, buildings and sites. An inscription worded in any manner requested serves as a lasting homage to generosity, and is further commemorated in a handsome certificate for the individual, or can be sent to the person(s) honored.
