Adolescent programs are a vital aspect of Henry Street's Youth Services Division. Adolescent Services' staff help build the futures of thousands of young people by providing innovative educational experiences, as well as healthy social and recreational outlets. The department provides access to vocational training and internship and employment opportunities, as well as a full complement of college-prep services.

SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM |
Henry Street places youth between the ages of 14 and 24 in seven weeks of summer employment and provides workshops on finances, health, college and careers, and work readiness skills. Applications are available April 1 of each year.

YOUNG ADULT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM |
The Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) serves 16 to 24 year-old Lower East Side residents who are not currently enrolled in school or working. The program begins with a 3-week job readiness training held Monday through Friday from 10 a.m to 3:30 p.m. This training is followed by an 11-week internship experience at worksites in a variety of professional fields.
During the 14 weeks of this program, participants are paid for up to for 25 hours per week at minimum wage. In addition to the paid job readiness training and the internship experience, YAIP connects participants to educational/social services, case management/counseling, and follow-up services that involve job placement and/or enrollment in GED classes, college or advanced training.

ADOLESCENT EDUCATIONAL SERVICES & COLLEGE PREP PROGRAMMING

Henry Street University assists 50 rising seniors throughout the summer in weekly sessions, covering topics such as creating a school list, applications, essay writing, financial aid, resumes, scholarships and in-person interviews. Students also have the opportunity to go on field trips, including local college tours. Program alumni volunteer their time to guide younger students through the process and give them the inside scoop.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Henry Street Settlement provides Youth Scholarships to graduating high school seniors and current college students who have been participants in Henry Street Settlement programs. Award money can be used for tuition, books and other school-related expenses. By providing financial assistance for higher education, Henry Street Settlement aims to support the growth and continued success of our program participants throughout college and beyond. Applications are available in April and due in May.
