Local 1199 Drives Joy to Henry Street
Local 1199 Drives Joy to Henry Street!
Have you ever seen 4,000 at one time? (Hint: Multiply the number of toys in the photo by 20 or more, and you can get an idea.)
The 4,000 new toys were collected and delivered to Henry Street Settlement on December 22nd by leadership of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers, the largest local union in the world.
George Gresham, president of the union, was joined by several dozen union members, arrived at the Settlement to help unload and distribute the toys to individuals served by Henry Street programs. The massive distribution effort enabled parents to "shop" the toys and select several for their children just in time for Christmas.
"We are so grateful to the members of 1199. Their generosity will enable our clients to have a joyous holiday," said Verona Middleton-Jeter, executive director of Henry Street.
