Asian Bi-Cultural Mental Health Services
Recognizing the increasing unmet mental health needs of the expanding immigrant Asian population, the Community Consultation Center (CCC) clinic formalized in 1997 an Asian Bi-Cultural unit. This unit is active in both the Out-Patient Mental Health Clinic and the Psychiatric Day Treatment Program.
Services address the stigma related to mental illness within Asian families; social and economic stressors; and family conflicts in values and role expectations that often arise between the older and younger generations in a new culture. This unit utilizes a unique model consisting of a team of East-West bi-cultural staff, which itself reflects differing value systems and approaches for problem resolution.
