Henry Street Serves Growing Chinese Community

By Henry Street Settlement

Each year Henry Street Settlement serves 60,000 New Yorkers—in part by overcoming language barriers with the neighborhood’s growing Chinese population. Henry Street’s Community Consultation Center (CCC) offers Mental Health services in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, to treat a range of  Mental Health concerns including depression,  mood disorders etc., family and immigration  issues.

“With the population increase in nearby Chinatown, the demand for mental health on the Lower East Side has grown, especially for this underserved community,” said Wen-Chun Hung, LMHC, Program Coordinator of the CCC’s Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS). “CCC has long history of treating individuals from all cultures, including members of the Chinese community, and for providing services in a non-judgmental, culturally sensitive and safe environment.”

The Center’s bi-cultural staff addresses  the cultural stigma surrounding mental illness, as well as conflicts that may arise between older and younger generations living in a new culture. The clinic also provides diagnostic and treatment services to monolingual Chinese individuals and families, including psychiatric evaluations, therapy, medication management, case management, 24-hour phone emergency coverage and crisis intervention.

Medicaid, Medicare and other third-party insurance providers are accepted. Other payment options will be individually evaluated. Services are available by appointment or on a walk-in basis. For more information, please visit our Primary and Behavioral Healthy program’s website.
