The ATTAIN (Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking) laboratory offers free access to the Internet and free computer training to members of the community in an attractive, comfortable environment.
The lab is a partnership between Henry Street Settlement, the State University of New York’s University Center for Academic and Workforce Development, and Microsoft. Our mission is to provide the Lower East Side community with vocational skills needed to increase their employability in an evolving technological world.
In digital literacy classes, participants will learn basic skills needed to operate a computer (typing, mouse use, file saving, etc.) and to use essential computer applications (email, creating documents, etc.). Upon completion, participants receive an official certificate. The course is one to two weeks depending on each individual’s schedule. Course information, including meeting times, are regularly updated at hss.sunyattain.org/calendar.
Official Microsoft Office Specialist Certification
Participants will learn at least one Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or Access) earning an official Microsoft Specialist Certificate upon test completion. Onsite learning can be self-paced or facilitated and includes texts, videos, and practice tests. A great certificate to have on your resume to impress employers! Intermediate level digital literacy is required.
Participants have access to Rosetta Stone, that offers 24 languages to learn. This is also a great resource for people who want to improve their English skills.
GED prep is available to everyone, no matter what level you are at. Lab coordinators will assess your math, reading, and language arts skills and assist with the Aztec Learning Platform–your self-paced journey to earning your GED.
The Lab provides access to other resources that facilitate your learning needs.
