Henry Street is the Community School partner for four Lower East Side schools, PS/MS 188, Orchard Collegiate Academy, University Neighborhood Middle School, and P.S. 142.  We provide holistic services including counseling, case management, referrals, other supportive services, and social and academic enrichment clubs to the students, their families, and the entire school communities.

Working in tandem with school administrations, our community school teams identify students in need of assistance and help ease barriers, allowing students to engage fully with their academic and extracurricular activities.

Orchard Collegiate Academy is a Community Schools partnership between Henry Street Settlement and the Orchard Collegiate Academy, a public high school in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This program provides a variety of services to every student in grades 9th-12th and their families.  The program’s goals are to support socio-emotional learning, improve attendance, encourage family engagement, and promote academic achievement through supports including individual and group counseling, college readiness counseling and workshops, and Expanded Learning Time. The Community School program consists of a Community School Director, Social Worker, College Counselor, and social work interns.

PS/MS 188 is a public elementary and middle school located at 442 E Houston St in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This Community School offers services that promote mental health and wellbeing, facilitate academic success, improve attendance, and ultimately grade promotion and graduation for elementary, middle, and high school students.  The Community School program has a Community School Director, two Social Workers, and social work interns.

University Neighborhood Middle School (“UNMS”) is a 21st Century Community School partnership between UNMS and Henry Street Settlement. Through this grant , Henry Street provides academic enrichment, social emotional growth, teacher-led after school clubs and high school application counseling to students families. As a Community School, we also support the UNMS community with encouraging attendance improvement, family engagement, and academic achievement. The Community School program staff consists of a Community School Director and Middle School Advisor.

P.S. 142 strives to create an emotionally and academically supportive environment for all students that enables them to develop agency and excitement about learning. The program recognizes that there are many barriers that prevent students from focusing on learning. We leverage the Community Schools strategy to provide wrap-around student and family support, engaging enrichment activities, and leadership opportunities to all of our 3K-5th grade students and their families.  The Community School program staff consists of a Community School Director and Program Assistant.
