Sports and recreation programs for youth and young adults are offered at three Henry Street locations, all at no cost. Learn more about our programming below!

 

A.C.E.S. YOUTH BASKETBALL CLINIC

This skills and drills clinic is a Jr. NBA sanctioned program that provides an excellent introduction to basketball. Participants will learn the fundamentals of basketball and improve their dribbling, passing, shooting, defending and rebounding. Practices are operated in a structured and organized environment, incorporating warm-ups, age-appropriate skill development, flexibility, coordination, and balance, while focusing on improving motor skills. The curriculum is geared toward athletes of all skill sets from beginners to advanced. The clinic focuses on nurturing their talent through high-intensity workouts and natural progression.

301 Henry Street, Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for 3-14 year olds

  • Ages 3-5, 12 to 12:30 p.m.
  • Ages 6-8, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
  • Ages 9-11, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Lightwork (girls basketball clinic) operates from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Saturday Night Lights offers free high-quality sports and fitness training for NYC youth ages 12-19 in all five boroughs. The aim of the program is to activate safe spaces for youth and to build trust between law enforcement by empowering the youth to reach their fullest potential.

At both 301 Henry Street and Boys & Girls Republic (888 E 6th Street), Saturdays, 5 to 9 p.m.

  • Ages 12-15, 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Ages 16-19, 7 to 9 p.m.

OPERATION ATHLETE

Operation Athlete is a Student-Athlete program that uses sports as a tool to promote higher education and career readiness. Participants will participate in AAU Live Period Events, attend college visits, individualized tutoring, NCAA Clearing House Knowledge, attend recruitment showcases, learn job readiness skills, plus opportunities for athletic scholarships and summer employment.

  • 8th through 12th grade, weekdays, 4 to 8 p.m.

FLAG FOOTBALL WINTER LEAGUE 

  • Boys & Girls Republic
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
  • Ages 12-19, 6:30 to 9 p.m.

BIG FLY BASEBALL

Get ready to hit it out of the park with the Big Fly Baseball Academy! Youth learn the fundamentals of baseball and improve as an athlete in a fun environment. Participants will receive instruction on hitting, pitching, catching, and all the fundamentals needed to start their baseball journey. They’ll also learn valuable skills such as teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, confidence, and building relationships and friendships.

  • Ages 5-7, 9 to 10 a.m.
  • Ages 8-10, 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Ages 11-13, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Jacob Riis Cornerstone (JRC) Evening and Weekend Programs

Free activities like cooking and martial arts classes, monthly trips, boxing, music, tech activities, podcasting, professional development opportunities, and more for middle schoolers, high schoolers, and young adults. Visit JRC at 80 Avenue D weekdays between 6-10 p.m. and Saturdays between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. to learn more and meet with a Cornerstone team member. View more »
