Henry Street Volunteers Recognized

By Henry Street Settlement

More than 50 of Henry Street’s valued volunteers gathered in the Settlement’s historic dining room for the annual Volunteer Recognition Reception held on June 5. Attendees enjoyed wine and hors d’oeurves and the opportunity to hear remarks from David Garza, Executive Director; Takiya Weekes, Director of Youth Employment Services; and Matthew Phifer, Director of Education Services, all of whom spoke about the enormous impact volunteers have on the clients Henry Street serves.

Among the volunteers honored at the event were those who serve seniors at the Good Companions Senior Center and the Naturally Occurring Retirement Community, as well as corporate volunteers from Macys and other companies, and those who serve as mentors for college youth. Each volunteer receive a tote bag and a thimble, the latter to symbolize that the work Henry Street does to fight poverty is as challenging as trying to empty the ocean with a thimble.
