Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social services, arts, and health care programs.
Henry Street provides corporate employees with meaningful, hands-on community service experience that promotes leadership skills and team building opportunities while meeting our corporate partners’ commitment to community engagement. Volunteer activities are strategically aligned to effectively meet our program needs and maximize impact. We can tailor our events to your particular interests, as well as the size of your group.
Serving meals to seniors:
Every day, local seniors gather at the Henry Street Settlement Senior Center for low-cost, delicious meals, classes, activities, and more. Volunteers help serve lunch or dinner, greatly increasing the efficiency of the meal service, while having fun and making new friends. Opportunities available Monday through Friday, as well as Sunday.
Resume and interview workshops:
At Henry Street’s Workforce Development Center, job-seekers learn to improve skills and build confidence to secure employment. Volunteers help our clients prepare for their job search by sharing their professional experience and knowledge, while helping them practice their interview skills, improve their resumes, and gain experience in a work setting. Corporate partners often sponsor a networking lunch for clients, which enriches their experience.
Supporting children’s learning:
Through activities like reading, sports and recreation, arts and crafts projects, sponsoring carnivals and parties, volunteers provide positive role models and fun opportunities for the hundreds of children that access Henry Street’s youth programs, like day care, after-school services, day camp, youth employment, and college access.
Gardening support provides a valuable service to our programs and our neighborhood. Volunteers can sponsor a beautification project to help keep our grounds looking clean and inviting.
